Dermal Fillers
For Volume, Fullness, & Youthful Look
As we age, our skin loses elastin and collagen, resulting in wrinkles and sagging. Other factors like sun exposure, environmental factors, and genetics can also contribute to skin changes. Dermal fillers are a great, popular, and cost-effective alternative to surgical face rejuvenation procedures.
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected below the skin to restore youthful volume and fullness to the face. Dermal fillers can soften facial creases and wrinkles, enhance shallow contours, and plump up thin lips. Dermal fillers can also improve the appearance of recessed scars, reduce undereye circles, and enhance/correct nose and chin shape.
Who is a candidate for Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and safe for most individuals. Treatments are specifically tailored to the individual patient and to the particular area being treated. To find out if you’re a candidate for dermal fillers, please schedule a consultation with us.
How do dermal fillers work?
The most visible signs of aging can be blamed on volume loss. Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel injected into the skin with a cannula or needle in order to restore this volume.
Dermal filler injections add volume in three different ways:
- The physical volume of the gel filler itself
- The physical volume of the water absorbed by the filler for a plumper look
- The body’s natural collagen synthesis which is stimulated by the filler injection
If you are not satisfied with your results, many fillers are reversible thanks to an injectable enzyme that dissolves them.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Once we inject dermal fillers, you’ll enjoy immediate results. Some fillers last for six months. Others could last for years. It all depends on your skin concerns, the treatment area, and how fast your body metabolizes the contents of the fillers. Deeper injections tend to be longer-lasting and less painful. In areas with a lot of movement (for example, the lips) the motion of the muscles will break down the fillers quicker. In general, we recommend touch-up treatments every 9 to 12 months for patients with fillers.
What's in dermal fillers?
There are a variety of dermal filler procedures available, each with a different combination of ingredients.
Injectable poly-L-lactic acid and injectable hyaluronic acid fillers are frequently used in temporary dermal filler injections. Hyaluronic acid, the most common, is actually a sugar molecule. This naturally occurring substance is found throughout the body in the skin’s connective tissue, eyes, and joints. Poly-L-lactic acid is a biodegradable synthetic material. Some filler injections also contain calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral found in human bones.
During your consultation and before your cosmetic procedure, your provider will let you know which dermal filler is the best fit for your needs and how its unique ingredients work.
